UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Purpose: To approve amendments to the Faculty Emeritus Policy, which was adopted by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands on August 11, 2008 WHEREAS, at the Augu st 11, 2008, Executive Committee meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands (the Board), the Board approved the Revised Policy for conferring Emeritus Status; and WHEREAS, in the intervening years, the faculty governing structure of the University of the Virgin Islands has changed; and WHEREAS, there is a need to amend the Faculty Emeritus Policy to replace references to the Faculty Review Advisory Committee (FRAC) with University Promotion and Tenure Committee (UPT). UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Purpose: To approve amendments to the Faculty Emeritus Policy, which was adopted by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands on August 11, 2008 WHEREAS, at the Augu st 11, 2008, Executive Committee meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands (the Board), the Board approved the Revised Policy for conferring Emeritus Status; and WHEREAS, in the intervening years, the faculty governing structure of the University of the Virgin Islands has changed; and WHEREAS, there is a need to amend the Faculty Emeritus Policy to replace references to the Faculty Review Advisory Committee (FRAC) with University Promotion and Tenure Committee (UPT). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY THAT: 1. The following a m e n d m e n t s t o the Faculty Emeritus Policy are hereby approved: a. Section III, Procedure A: For Teaching Faculty – The reference to Faculty Review Advisory Committee (FRAC) is replaced by University Promotion and Tenure Committee (UPT). b. Section III, Procedure B: For Research Faculty, Items 1 and 2 – Item 1 which reads, “The candidate must be nominated, by letter……………..criteria in Sections I and II above,” is replaced by the paragraph, “ The candidate must be nominated by letters sent to the UPT by at least (3) three faculty members and the Provost of Academic Affairs. UPT shall inform the candidate who must submit an application.” 2. The President is authorized to take such action as in necessary to implement this resolution. 3. This resolution shall become effective June 20, 2020. CERTIFICATION The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands adopted at its meeting on Saturday, June 20, 2020, as recorded in the minutes of the said meeting.
