Title 27, Section 166j, Subsection (b), Virgin Islands Code is amended in the following instances: (1) In paragraph (2), insert, before the last sentence thereof, the following: “Not more than two such members shall be residents of the same island. In the initial appointment of such persons, one shall be appointed for a term of one year, one for a term of two years, and one for a term of three OOMOON OOP WHND = oh, years. Thereafter, such persons shall be appointed for a term of four years, ONO UW KRWHND = OUR WON BZ O GOON AW AKRWN = O O except that any person appointed to fill a vacancy occurring prior to the expiration of the term for which a predecessor was appointed shall be appointed only for the remainder of the term. Such members may be removed for cause by the Governor.” (2) In paragraph (3), insert, after the last sentence thereof, the following: “Not more than two such members shall be residents of the same island. The term of office of each member shall be for two years and each shall be eligible for reappointment. Any person appointed to fill a vacancy occurring prior to the expiration of the term for which a predecessor was appointed shall be appointed only for the remainder of the term. Members appointed by the President of the Legislature may be removed for cause by the President of the Legislature”. BILL SUMMARY This bill amends 27 VIC Section 166j by providing for staggered terms for the Health Consumer Complaint Review Committee members who are initially appointed by the Governor and by establishing four-year terms thereafter. A two-year term is established for committee members appointed by the President of the Legislature. The measure further amends Section 166j by ensuring that members appointed by the Governor and by the President of the Legislature will not be all from the same political district. Not more than two members may be from the same district.
