The Clyde sfs Surinam homeward bound is due to call at Frederiksted on or about the 15th instant, and it is advised that it is the intention of the postmaster, Christiansied, to make up and forward a mail for the United States and other places via New York by this boat. Notice will be issued as early as practica- ble as to just when this mail will be closed. As it will be the last mail from here to reach the States before Christ- mas (that leaving by the Marina on the 17th for dispatch via the sfs San Lorenzo through San Juan, P. R. will arrive in New York on Dec. 25th), the public is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and mail matter right along avoiding the rush likely to be encounter- ed at the last moment since the final notice of closing may be uecessarily short. The S. S. ‘‘Bridgetown’’ sailed from New York on Saturday evening, having 23 tons of cargo for Frederiksted and 48 tons for Christiansted. The drama screened at the Christian- sted Theatre last night was indeed very interesting and deserved a larger audi- ence. Tonight there will be shown ‘39 East”’ a 6 reel drama, at St. Mary’s Hall. St. Thomas News A mysterious disappearance took place on Monday afternoon of this week, when young Cyril, the four year old“nephew of Mr. Felix Padilla of this ecity, could not be found for many: hours. The young child, who is not accustomed to stray further than the yard of his home, was picked up many miles away,by a woman. It was impossible for the child to have walked such a considerable distance in such a short time. The whole affair points plainly to the opinion that he must l.ave been carried there; for what rea- son and by whom, it is not possible to say up to the present. After an hour had elapsed and the child could not be found, the police were informed, Ser- jeant Thomas with his men scoured the city in vain. It was four o’clock in the afternoon when the chld was missed. An hour later, a womap coming from the road, below Altona, met the child coming from the same direction and was about passing when she noticed it mak- ing signs of distress and an anxiety to ‘‘get home.”” After walking a consider- able way up the road they were met by the searchers. : _ Some years ago a woman left her in- fant child in her room and'when she came back it was missing. It has taken the choir just two weeks to get it down tc the fine point it is, and we think this a record-breaking. This, however, has been made possible through the efficacy of the Choir Direector, Rev. Fr. Gummer C. SS. R., coupled with the co-operation of each and every mem- ber of the choir. Rev. Fr. Gummer believes in having the choir at its best at all times. He has a bunch of new music which gives pleasure both te the singers and hearers. We are quite confident that after to- morrow night’s rendition of the ‘‘Magni- ficat,”” judging from the choir’s past re- putation, the Rev. Fr. ST CROIX STATION, Dublin, Dee. 6th.— The inauguration of the Irisk Free State as one of the domiri- ons of the British Empire took place today. The ceremony was simple and unmarred by hostile demopstrations from the Republican minority. The oath wuas administered to Mr. Timethy Healy, =us Governor-General, by the Lord Chics Justlce at Mr. ?aly’s residence n Chapelizod on the Liffey, three miles waest of Dublin, and afterwards the new Governor-Géneral administered the oath to Professor Michaesl Hayes as speaker of the Dail. ‘ine ministers assembled punctually at five p. m. Mr. Cosgrave, President of the Dail Cabinet. and Mr. O’Higgins, Minister of Home Affairs, were among the first arrivals and occupied the same seats as in the old Datil BEireann. At 510 o’clock speaker Hayes announced that he was authorizad by the Governor Gen- eral to adminpister the oath to the Depu- ties. Mr. Cosgrave was the first one to be sworn and to sign the roll The form of the oath of allegiance was primarily to the constitution of (i Irish Free State and then to King George as the head ¢f the peovle of the Brirish Commonwealth. Mr. Chiggins and the other Ministeis took the oath, followed by the niembers of the Dail. The oath was admjinistered to each man individually and most of the repetition were audibie throughout.
