Call me. Instillation Put the UVI Install Dial-In Access disk into your disk drive. Switch to that drive and type Install. Start Twinsock by double clicking its icon. Under Communications in the Setup menu, configure Twinsock with the following. Port Probably COM1 or COM2 Speed Your modem’s maximum speed up to 9600 Data bits Parity None Stop Bits Test your connection by typing ATA from within Twinsock and listening for a dial tone. If you don’t hear a dial tone try a different COM port. Then slower speeds. (The maximum speed on UVI modems is 9600). Usual Instructions Note that the above software and our phone lines are not perfect. You may have to repeat the following instructions a few times before you make it “in.” Once you’re in you may hang-up or being disconnected. From my personal experience, I would grade the system as good. I find it works best to connect, get all my mail, disconnect, compose my replies and connect again. This is also the most polite procedure since it leaves the port open for others. Be sure to disconnect when finished! Connecting Start Twinsock. Under the Setup menu choose Dial and call UVI at 693-1570. Don’t forget to add 9 if on campus (or don’t use the 693). I’m told that putting “*70,” in front of your number turns off Call Waiting but it hasn’t worked for me. After a while you will see Connect 9600 (or whatever speed your modem is set at). Press the Enter key a few times and you should be prompted with a UVI-NET> prompt. At the UVI-NET> prompt type GECKO then enter.. When prompted, log in by typing your account name, pressing enter, then typing your password (your password will not be displayed on the screen). After a short message, a prompt with your account name (i.e. cbalch@gecko>) will appear. At the prompt, type tshost. The Twinsock application should “disappear” (actually it is minimizing itself). You can now run any of the applications mentioned above. Disconnecting Press ALT-TAB until you see Twinsock. Select Disconnect from the Setup menu Type EXIT at your prompt Free your phone line unplugging it for a few seconds or by typing +++ then ATH after you are prompted by OK.
