This memo is to inform you that the above-referenced application for a Minor Coastal Zone Permit has been reviewed and it is determined that since the project site is not listed on the Virgin Islands Registry of Historic Places, no additional archaeological investigations will be required for Plot No. 14 Remainder, Est. However, if any newly identified historic structures or archaeological sites will be impacted or demolished as part of this permit, the applicant will be instructed to contact the VISHPO for consultation immediately. Further, because it is not known if archaeological or historic resources could be present below grade on this site, the applicant, Animal Care Center of St. John Inc., should be informed that upon discovery of any new archaeological or historic site or human burial site on private lands, the owner or his representative shall immediately notify the VISHPO in the event of such a discovery. Failure to notify the VISHPO in the event of such a discovery, and/or the purposeful concealment or destruction of archaeological or historic remains may result in civil and/or criminal penalties.
