Students who meet the following criteria can apply for University Bound:  You’re a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and  You’ve completed the 8th grade, and  Your parents meet the low-income criteria, or  You are a potential first generation college student, or  You’re willing to make a commitment to pursue post-secondary education, and  You have academic potential and at least a “C” average, and  You are enrolled in a college prepara- tory or vocational track program in high school. Applications for University Bound are accept- ed year round on a first come, first serve basis. To be considered for the University Bound Program you must submit the following:  Completed University Bound Application  A certified copy of your parent(s)’ or guardian(s)’ most recent 1040 or 1040A Income Tax Return  Letter of recommendation from your high school counselor, your math, science or English teacher  Your most recent high school transcript or report card You’ll be invited to sit an interview with your parent(s) or guardian(s) to discuss your partici- pation in the program. For More Information Is There A Cost to Participants? There is NO COST to participating stu- dents or their families. The program is looking for committed students who will have regular attendance, demonstrate punctuality, a positive attitude and an interest in developing scholastics and oth- er social skills. Join University Bound What Is University Bound? How Can It Help Me? October to May SATURDAY PROGRAM June and July Residential SUMMER PROGRAM University Bound (formerly Upward BoundI) is a college preparatory program designed to generate skills and motivation for academic success in high school and beyond. University Bound primarily serves high school students from low income families and potential first generation college stu- dents. Students that do not fit this criteria but intend to attend post-secondary educa- tion are also welcome. The program helps students who have academic ability but re- quires enhanced preparation, motivation, or opportunity to realize their college goals. Since the program’s inception in the summer of 1966, at the then College of the Virgin Islands, University Bound has helped thou- sands of Virgin Islands students attain the goal of higher education. University Bound offers academic and per- sonal counseling to help students make the most of their high school courses and pre- pare them for college. Students get the opportunity to discuss fu- ture plans and acquire personal skills for an easy transition from high school to post sec- ondary education. Students will also receive help with college entrance exams, college applications and assistance with financial aid . During the academic year, students attend University Bound classes on Saturdays and after school to supple- ment high school classes. Students work in small groups or in one-on- one sessions with their tutor or in- structor. They’re encouraged to bring text- books, homework assignments and notes from regular classes to enhance their academic sessions. On Saturdays, students participate in:  Instruction and tutorial to assist them with their high school course work  Study Skills Seminars  Financial Aid Workshops  Exam, SAT & ACT Preparation  Career Planning, Guidance and Counseling  Social and Cultural Activities During University Bound’s summer pro- gram, students enjoy a real college ex- perience by living in the UVI residence halls on St. Thomas and St. Croix. Students’ sessions feature core curricular classes to prepare them for the upcom- ing school year. The summer program also provides tutorial and enrichment sessions to allow students to develop socially and culturally. Students participate in:  Academic instruction and study skills sessions  Group and individual counseling- personal and academic skills, and career exploration  Social, cultural and recreational ac- tivities to develop interpersonal and conflict resolution skills  College seminars, scholarship and financial aid fairs, and retreats  An opportunity to participate in a college tour  Graduating seniors get the oppor- tunity to obtain college credits for attending classes at UVI
