IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES NOVEMBER 1, 2005 Mrs. CHRISTENSEN introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Resources A BILL To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to determine the suitability and feasibility of desig- nating the Virgin Islands Military and Veterans Memo- rial, tc be located in Fredericksted, St. Croix, U.S. Vir- gin Islands, as a unit of the National Park System. 1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 2 tires of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 3 SECTION 1. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE STUDY REGARDING 4 THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS MILITARY AND 5 VETERANS MEMORIAL MUSEUM. 6 (a) FINDINGS.-The Congress finds as follows: F, ut ° 9 , r 4 3 r . 4 ra of .1 I - to o 1 It' V a . a I IINVOI -a-. 1 BEST AVAILABLE IMAGE 2 1 (1) The U.S. Virgin Islands Military and Vet- 2 erans Memorial will be a tribute to the over 3000 3 war veterans of Virgin Island descent who reside in 4 St. Croix, Virgin Islands. 5 (2) The Memorial will include exhibits, arti- 6 facts, and memorabilia of conflicts that involved vet- 7 erans of Virgin Island descent, including members of 8 the 332nd Fighter Group, more commonly known as 9 the Tuskegee Airmen. 10 (3) The Memorial will feature a Wall of Re- 11 membrane listing and identifying every Virgin Is- 12 land veteran by war or conflict to provide a lasting 13 homage to their courage and resolve. 14 (4) The plan for the Memorial includes estab- 15 lishment of a veterans medical clinic on the Memo- 16 rial site, to extend and enhance medical services for 17 veterans on the Island of St. Croix. 18 (5) In 2001, the ').4th Legislature of the Virgin 19 Islands enacted legislation, known as the Virgin Is- 20 lands Military Museum and Veterans Memorial Act, 21 authorizing the establishment of a memorial in the 22 Virgin Islands to the over 3000 registered Virgin Is- 23 land War Veterans who reside in the Virgin Islands. dill 4111111 1111 .1.111. r. 4 t t I CI 11 i 3 A-- a. .
