The University of the Virgin Islands Resolution for Security and Physical Plant Employee Appreciation Day Eighth Day of February, Two Thousand and Six Whereas, the University of the Virgin Islands is an institution of higher learning that stretches across two islands and more than 500 acres. Our grounds include a golf course, a working farm, a beach, hills, valleys, and ponds. Over 3,500 faculty, staff, students and members of the community utilize these facilities throughout the year; and Whereas, in order to realize the University’s mission of fostering student-centered learning, research and public service to enrich the Virgin Islands Territory and the lives of its citizens, each day must begin with an environment that is safe, clean, and conducive to attaining the highest goals of academic excellence and community service; and Whereas, the monumental task of keeping us safe and providing a place that is appealing to the eye and refreshing to the soul; this responsibility lies in the hands of the 93 individuals whose tireless work we are here to honor today; and Whereas, the Secur …

The University of the Virgin Islands Resolution for Security and Physical Plant Employee Appreciation Day Eighth Day of February, Two Thousand and Six Whereas, the University of the Virgin Islands is an institution of higher learning that stretches across two islands and more than 500 acres. Our grounds include a golf course, a working farm, a beach, hills, valleys, and ponds. Over 3,500 faculty, staff, students and members of the community utilize these facilities throughout the year; and Whereas, in order to realize the University’s mission of fostering student-centered learning, research and public service to enrich the Virgin Islands Territory and the lives of its citizens, each day must begin with an environment that is safe, clean, and conducive to attaining the highest goals of academic excellence and community service; and Whereas, the monumental task of keeping us safe and providing a place that is appealing to the eye and refreshing to the soul; this responsibility lies in the hands of the 93 individuals whose tireless work we are here to honor today; and Whereas, the Security and Physical Plant Departments at the University of the Virgin Islands provide a vital service in their commitment to maintain and secure campuses on St. Thomas and St. Croix; and Whereas, the dedication of our Security and Physical Plant employees is a direct reflection of the University which results in a positive image that resonates throughout the community, and yields a comfortable, attractive place where we work and live; and Whereas, visitors to the University, including members of the Board of Trustees and the General Public, frequently comment on the beauty of our campuses and the warm, hospitable atmosphere that is conveyed through smiling faces and friendly assistance; and Whereas, Security and Physical Plant employees, by the quality of their work and care for the campus community, serve as a model for our students and they clearly contribute to the University’s efforts to provide teaching, learning, and support that lead to student success; therefore be it Resolved, that I, LaVerne E. Ragster, President of the University of the Virgin Islands, do hereby declare the Eighth Day of February, 2006 to be recognized as Security and Physical Plant Employee Appreciation Day to commemorate the important work of these dedicated individuals; and be it further Resolved, that all students, faculty, and staff shall join together in a special effort to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of our colleagues, not only on this day, but at every opportunity throughout the year.
