Therefore, the following beaches are not considered safe for swimming or fishing: • Frenchman’s Bay on St. Thomas • Limetree Bay Beach on St. Thomas. Please note: Samples were not collected at the following beaches: • Columbus Landing on St. Croix • Pelican Cove (Comorant) on St. Croix • Grapetree Bay Beach on St. Croix • Princess Condo Row on St. Croix • Beaches on St. John and Water Island. Therefore, the water quality at these beaches is unknown. The Division of Environmental Protection (DEP) anticipates potential negative environmental impacts, including stormwater runoff, high surf zones, and possible sewer system overflows, associated with Hurricane Erin. Therefore, the department advises the following: • Exercise caution when using coastal waters and beaches throughout the Territory until further notice. • Swimming in stormwater-impacted areas poses elevated health risks due to increased bacterial and pollutant concentrations. • Parents should instruct children to avoid stormwater-impacted beaches, manholes, and areas with stormwater flooding. For additional information regarding water quality, call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082 in St. Croix or 774-3320 in St. Thomas.
