R i The football mateh previously an- | nounged, and played at FParade Ground on Sunday afternoon against the Merry Boys of Frederiksted, was won by the Alert club of this town, by 8 goals to 1. There was a large number of spectators, and interest van high at the successful playing of the home team. The Industrial Band played in the bandstand on Sunday night to the enter- tainment of a large gathering. The pro- gram was made up of choice selections, including new music, well rendered, ap- plauded and enrcored. The U. 3. S. Grebe from St. Thomas arrived at this port at 11.45 a. m. yester- day, having as passengers for this island Lieut. Roy Barrett, who succeeds Lieut. Rappolee as Despatching Secretary here, Mrs. Hedrieck, and eight enlisted ma- rines. She brought otherwise one hun- dred and odd packages of cargo {or the Public Works Dept. and the Marine Bar- racks, a Chandler car for Lieut. Bar- rett, and three bags of mail. The ship returned to St. Thomas at about three p. m. carrying some marines. The congregation of the African Me- thodist Kpiscopa! Church in procession yesterday headed by the Native Brass Band, marched down Company Street and up King Street to iHolger Danske ground wheve a picnic was held. Ad- dresses were delivered by Messrs, D. Hamilton Jacksor, 'I. Ash and A. Francis. The Industrial Band also joined in fur- nishing music on this occasion. As the con- tract with the Bull Insular Line was ex- tended for six months from Mareh Ist., the company will be obliged to take ecare of this mail service untii the Ist of Sep- tember at least, and information from tne Washington authorities is expected shortly as to what provisions are made in this connection. Any important cnange will be communieated to the post- master without unnecessary delay. J’ Acus? constituting the show at the Christiansted Theatre last night was very well attended and in point of at- tractive entertainment was a great sue- cess as predicted.
