Appreciable rain showers fell in Fred- eriksted yesterday and in the country district from Estate Slob westward. This town with surrounding rural vicinity has not been so fortunatz, the dry svpell still being inflexible. The lack of drinking water is a grave matter which zrows more and more serious, and we can but wonder where it will end. Owing to the scarcity of sufficient rain water for the purpose, some ice is being manufac- tured from spring water for use 'in refrigerators, and for churning purposes. The 8. S. Guiana arrived at Frederik- sted at day-break today, and will sail for St. Kitts this afternoon. A ecar has been dispatched for the letter mail which is. therefore, expected to be to hand early, the parcel post. etc. to be forwarded la. ter. The Postmaster is advised that the Guiana has 30 bags mails for Christian- sted, and that the Creole sailed last night with 115 bags for the island.
