PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release August 20, 2015 Media Contact Person: Kurell Hodge Equal Employment Opportunity Administrator Tel: 774-8588 / Fax: 714-5040 Kurell.Hodge@dop.vi.gov PRESS RELEASE NATIONAL EMPLOYER SUPPORT OF THE GUARD AND RESERVE WEEK With the signing of the proclamation by President Barack Obama declaring August 16 – 22, 2015, National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week (ESGR), the Virgin Islands Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve along with the Division of Personnel would like to express heartfelt thanks to our dedicated employees who are the members of the National Guard and Reserve or relatives and friends of those who serve. During National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week, we salute our Virgin Islands citizen-warriors. Beyond serving their communities, raising their families, and playing a vital part in the Government workforce, these heroes find time throughout the year to train and prepare for new challenges and missions in the event of an emergency or threat to our security. With unmatched skill and professionalism, they have answered our country's call to serve -- responding to disasters locally, on the mainland United States and carrying out tours of duty far from home, including in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Government of the Virgin Islands fully recognizes our role in supporting servicemen and women to help our county meet its needs. We are committed to supporting the obligations to the women and men of the Guard and Reserve by providing workplace flexibility and full compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA). Milton E. Potter, SHRM-SCP; IPMA-CP, Director Designee, Division of Personnel, would like to personally thank our Guardsmen and Reservists, as well as their respective Departments and Agencies—who know the value service members bring to the workplace, who see service members as an essential part of their teams, and whose support is vital to the readiness and strength of the greatest fighting force on Earth. This week, join me in celebrating the women and men who keep our country safe and defend the way of life we cherish. WE ALL SERVE.
