DECEMBER 2012 OCCUPANCY REPORT BUREAU OF ECONOMIC RESEARCH DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS  There was a total of 302,528 visitors in December—69,776 air visitors and 232,752 cruise ship passengers.  The Territory welcomed 2,642,118 visitors in 2012, a decrease of 45,834 visitors or 1.7 percent drop from 2011.  Seasonal promotions done by the USVI Department of Tourism and its participating partners, assisted in spurring the growth of air visitor arrivals this year. There were 737,650 air visitors, an 8.6 percent growth over the 678,961 air visitors who came in 2011.  The year 2012 showed strong growth in air passenger arrivals for both districts. The St. Thomas and St. John district recorded a 9.1 percent increase in air arrivals to 580,332 from 531,907, while island of St. Croix posted a 7.0 percent uptick in air arrivals to 157,318 from 147,054.  The Territory’s annual hotel occupancy rate decreased 3.6 percentage points to 48.0 percent in 2012 from 51.6 percent in 2011. …
