ACT NO.6501 BILL NO 24-0195 TWENTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES Regular Session 2002 To amend title 19, chapters 15 and 16, Virgin Islands Code, to enact The Healthcare Quality Improvement Act of 2002, and for other related purposes —0— WHEREAS, the Legislature of the Virgin Islands was most concerned with residents and visitors to the territory receiving quality healthcare when it adopted. The Hospital Semi-Autonomy Act (Act No. 6279); and WHEREAS, as a result of the enactment of the semi-autonomy legislation, the financial condition and quality of care and services of both Hospitals and Myrah Keating Smith Health Center have improved dramatically; and WHEREAS, there remains a great need to amend existing laws and add new statutory provisions that will allow the Hospitals to effectively deliver quality healthcare to all of the people of the territory as semi-autonomous entities of the Government of the Virgin Islands; and WHEREAS, there is also a need to amend the health statutes to improve the coordination between the Department of Health and the Ho …
