Governor-Division of Banking and Insurance announces to the general public the suspension of MoneyGram money transfer services at the following locations in the Virgin Islands:  In St. Thomas: o Xpress Payment Center & Money Wire Transfer at Tutu Park Mall; o Mail Plus, at #23 Dronningens Gade, Charlotte Amalie; and o Mail Plus at Nisky Center.  In St. Croix: o Xpress Payment Center & Money Wire Transfer in Plaza Xtra Supermarket at Estate Sion Farm; and o Xpress Payment Center & Money Wire Transfer in Plaza Xtra Supermarket at Estate Plessen.  In St. John: o Xpress Payment Center & Money Wire Transfer at 7-4A Cruz Bay However, the public is informed that MoneyGram services at the Caribbean Travel Agency in Havensight, St. Thomas and In Touch, LLC located at Sub Base and Estate Thomas in St. Thomas remain open to serve the general public with their money transfer needs as they are under different management and ownership than the suspended establishments. The suspension of services at the aforementioned locations are a result of a decision made by the MoneyGram Regional Office in Miami, Florida. Suspension of services at the aforementioned locations shall remain until further notice. If and when such services are resumed, the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs and the office of the Lt. Governor-Division of Banking and Insurance shall inform the general public. The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs issues licenses to the aforementioned establishments to conduct business in the Virgin Islands and the Office of the Lt. Governor- Division of Banking and Insurance registers said establishments to perform money transfer services in the Virgin Islands. We are working with DLCA to make sure consumers’ interests are protected. We have written to MoneyGram and requested that they find another authorized representative to serve the islands of St. Croix and St. John as soon as possible, given the large number of consumers that utilize their services on both islands.” Commissioner Carrington stated, “Based on preliminary information received from MoneyGram headquarters, no consumer transactions in the Virgin Islands have been adversely affected by the action that has prompted MoneyGram Headquarters to suspend services at the aforementioned locations.
