On September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria struck the U.S. Virgin Islands as a category 5 hurricane, where it caused extreme damage in St. Croix and flooding in St. Thomas and St. John. Hours later, Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico as a category 4 hurricane and knocked out 100 percent of Puerto Rico’s electrical grid. Estimated damages for Hurricane Maria are $90 billion. This was the third major hurricane (after Harvey and Irma) to impact the United States and its territories between August 25 and September 20, 2017. …
