September 3 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Governor Albert Bryan Jr. is advising residents and local businesses that Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett has notified his office that she is working with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to resolve issues originating in Puerto Rico that are affecting mail delivery in the Territory. The USPS regional office in Puerto Rico suspended inbound and outbound mail processing to the U.S. Virgin Islands between August 20-27 because of structural issues at the USPS Processing Center in San Juan, according to Delegate Plaskett’s office. Governor Bryan expressed his concern that these delays could slow the distribution of the most recent round of income tax refunds, which went in the mail this week, and delivery of Child Tax Credit checks, which began going out to residents last week. Until the San Juan USPS Processing Center is operational, mail processing operations for the Territory’s in-bound letter mail from the mainland, Alaska and Hawaii has been moved to the Morgan Station in New York. Out-bound international and domestic letter mail processing has been moved to the Memphis, Tennessee USPC Processing Center. Large packages and inter-island mail processing and delivery for the Virgin Islands have not been impacted, according to the Delegate’s office. Congresswoman Plaskett said she is in discussions with USPS regional officials to address and resolve the mail delivery issues. The Bryan-Roach Administration is committed to transparency, stabilizing the economy, restoring trust in the government and ensuring that recovery projects are completed as quickly as possible.
