The Senate meeting followed the Leadership Retreat which took place on both campuses via videoconference for the full day prior to the meeting. ROLL CALL A quorum was established. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR FEBRUARY 14, 2014 Chair Morgan entertained a motion to approve the minutes for the February 14, 2014 meeting at the next meeting on April 11, 2014. The motion was moved by Senator Barry and seconded by Senator Fleming. The motion carried unanimously and was approved. …

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR FEBRUARY 14, 2014 Chair Morgan entertained a motion to approve the minutes for the February 14, 2014 meeting at the next meeting on April 11, 2014. The motion was moved by Senator Barry and seconded by Senator Fleming. The motion carried unanimously and was approved. CHAIR REMARKS Senators are welcomed to participate in the respective commencement ceremonies on both campuses, and should make arrangements for regalia as soon as possible, which will be paid by Senate budget. SWEARING IN OF NEW SENATORS Senators Cherie Wheatley and Jacqueline Romer were sworn into the Senate by President Hall, assisted by Chair Morgan. REPORTS UVI website now lists the membership of the senate, officers, purpose and bylaws. Senator Barry requested a revised list of the current officers. New Certificate Programs – Senator McKayle‐Stolz At the faculty meeting on March 13th, faculty passed a framework that will allow certificates to be issued to students for specific areas, which will be housed within the academic units. Areas include music, entrepreneurship, and psychology. This program will allow students to obtain formal non‐ academic degree training and certification in specific areas of interest. Orientation Committee – Senator McKayle‐Stolz The Orientation Committee proposed a new student “convocation” to welcome new students with the participation of faculty and staff. The Committee supports the name and activities change and seek input from staff and faculty. The goal is to have students feel the difference between high school and college. The term “convocation” may replace “orientation” for the new student orientation. Hence, the convocation that is delivered by the President each semester may be renamed to State of the University Address. Board of Trustees – Senator Hall The career advancement policy was sent out to the various constituency groups and departments for feedback for the June Board meeting. Feedback is due in early April. UVINext is reaching its conclusion. The Administrative task force has been working extremely hard. Senator Hall thanked Senators Frank Mills, Shirley Lake‐King and Raquel Santiago Silver for the leadership on the Administrative task force. Senator McKayle‐Stolz confirmed that the Academic task force submitted the required information to the consultant for inclusion in the final report. The final report will be submitted through the share governance process upon receipt from the consultant. Other critical items will be shared with the Senate at a later time when finalize. Shadow Our Students Program – Senator Kevin Dixon Senator Kevin Dixon provided an overview of Student Government Association Shadow Our Students program. Many students completed applications to attend UVI; the registration fee was waived. The event went very well and was successful. OLD BUSINESS The iPad policy will be shared at the next meeting in April, upon further review by the appropriate persons, prior to dissemination. NEXT MEETING The next Senate meeting will take place on Friday, April 11, 2014. ADJOURNMENT Chair Morgan entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting. Senator Barry moved the motion and it was seconded by Senator Wheatley. The motion carried unanimously and was approved. Chair Morgan adjourned the meeting at 2:47pm.
