oo UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: To approve the granting of Professor Emeritus Status to the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull, Governor of the U. S. Virgin Islands WHEREAS, at its meeting on June 18, 1981, the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands approved a policy for the conferring of emeritus status on former faculty members of the University of the Virgin Islands, and WHEREAS, the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull, Governor of the U. S. Virgin Islands, resigned from full-time active teaching at the University of the Virgin Islands in August, 1998, after serving as Professor of History since 1989 in a meritorious manner, and WHEREAS, the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull has served the people of the Virgin Islands in many professional capacities, such as: elementary and secondary school teacher; Assistant Principal and Principal of the Charlotte Amalie High School; Assistant Commissioner and Commissioner of the Department of Education; and now Governor of the U. oo UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: To approve the granting of Professor Emeritus Status to the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull, Governor of the U. S. Virgin Islands WHEREAS, at its meeting on June 18, 1981, the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands approved a policy for the conferring of emeritus status on former faculty members of the University of the Virgin Islands, and WHEREAS, the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull, Governor of the U. S. Virgin Islands, resigned from full-time active teaching at the University of the Virgin Islands in August, 1998, after serving as Professor of History since 1989 in a meritorious manner, and WHEREAS, the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull has served the people of the Virgin Islands in many professional capacities, such as: elementary and secondary school teacher; Assistant Principal and Principal of the Charlotte Amalie High School; Assistant Commissioner and Commissioner of the Department of Education; and now Governor of the U. S. Virgin Islands, and WHEREAS, the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull has achieved an exemplary record of civic service, such as Chairman of the V. I. Board of Education, member of the UVI Board of Trustees and the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital Board, and delegate to four V. I. Constitutional Conventions, and WHEREAS, the Faculty Review Advisory Council has unanimously voted to recommend to the President that the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull be appointed Professor Emeritus of the University, and WHEREAS, the Vice President for Academic Affairs recommends that the President accepts the favorable recommendation of FRAC and the favorable recommendation of the VPAA, and WHEREAS, the President of the University of the Virgin Islands recommends to the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands that the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull be awarded Professor Emeritus status, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees approves the granting of Professor Emeritus Status to the Honorable Dr. Charles Wesley Turnbull, Governor of the U. S. Virgin Islands. CERTIFICATION The undersigned does hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of the resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands adopted at its meeting on March 6, 1999 and recorded in the minutes of said meeting.
