The Colonial “ouncil held a meeting yesterday afternoon, said to have been to discuss the reception of the Congres- sional Committea by that body. As the meeting was a private one within closed doors, no report of its proceedings or re- sults is available. The soiree at St. John’s School House was largely attended in the afternoon and evening yesterday and will be continued today when the same attractions, with meals and refreshments, will again be on sale. ' I'he Creole is here today with mail from St. Thomas and the States. The S. S. Lake Forest left Frederiksted last night for the Leeward Islands. It is the opinion of this paper that a a eivil government as is desired by some must of necessity entail a ditional taxa- tion which is sure to fali on the heads of many already unable to bear the hurden of it, with no guarantees that the pro- gress and development so firmly Jooked for will follow. The naval form of gov- errment seews undpuhtably the one adapted to this territory which is far from self-supporting, =nd with certain changes to better suit conditions, will be sure to prove all that can be desired here. More on this subject, on which contribu- tions of those interested will be welcomed. Frederiksted, Feb. 3rd 1920.
