The motor boat ‘‘Carmen,’’ Captain George, belonging 'oo Mr. Emile A. Berne, was wrecked lastinight on Jonnson’s Recs. She was returning {rom Torio- la with a party § of pleasure-seekers, about 20 in number. including Captain Will Simmonds of ‘he Harbour Depart- ment, and his wige, Rev. Pilgrim and morh=r, Mr. and Mgs. D. H. Seale, Miss Szale and others., After some hours of anxiety, tohey \Vere"?naliy rescued by a St. John boat, and brought here, arriv- ing ac 3 o’cloek, thi> morning. Later this mornine at 8.30 a. ra., Mr,, Berne with 4 party bf labourers est for the scene of disaster, to try and save the boat. We are glad to state that through re- presentations made at Washington con- cerning the matter, the embargo former- ly laid upon shipment of coals to this port, and which, thiough :he lack of same. by preventing ships calling here fcr bunker-coals, entailed some hard- ships upon a large section of .ur commu- nity, has been removed; and that the dr,i shipment of said commeodity, com- prising about 3,000 tons, will arrive 1n a few days. St. Thomas Mail Notes, Feb. loth. Since Friday, the harbour has been looking quite lively, there having arrived several U. S. ships of war, 2mong them an Admiral-ship whieh arrived yester- morning.
