T is hereby brought to public _notice ‘ that the Governor of the Virgin Is- lands of the United States was today fficially advised by radin that an Act »f Congress signed by the President 12 July, 1921, and effective 1 July, 1921, contained the two following pro- visos: : : “‘Provided that no person owing allegi ance to any country other than th'e United State of America shall be eligi- ble to hold office as a member of the Colonial Counecils of the Virgin Isiands of the United States nor to hold any public office under the Government of gaid islands: Provided further that the income tax laws now in force in the United States of America and those which may here- after be enacted shall be likewise In forece in the Yirgin Islands of the [Tnited States except that the proceeds of such taxes shalli be paid into the treasuries of said slands.”’ (yovernment of the Virgin Islands of tge United Sta es, St. Thomas, 15 July, 1921. Tis hereby made known that whereas the following “ember of the Colon_lal Council elected bye country district of Christiansted. 2nd Me’nber Svend Jorgensen has died, Government resolved in vertue of artiele 28 of the Colonia! law that a SPECIAL ELECTION of a member to the Couneil in lieu of the said gen- tleman shall take place in the Court House of Christiansted jurisdiction on Saturday Ju'v 30 1921. The polling will commence at 1 o’clock p. m. in accordance with article 30 of the Colonial law will close at 4 o’clock p m. at the eariiest. At the eleciion noone can be con- sidered unless he has announced himself as a candidate or has been so announc- ed by one of tlie eleetors of the elector- al disiriect. I'he announcement of can- didature shall either b¢ made in writing or by persoral attendance of the an- nouncer at the Electoral Roard.
