Ottley Legislative Hall. Girl Scouts, representing lawmakers considered Bill No. 35-00GS, an act to recognize the month of March as Girl Scouts Month in the Virgin Islands of the United States. According to the act, the month of March would be recognized as Girl Scouts Month throughout the territory. At least 15 days prior to Girl Scouts Month, the governor may issue a proclamation to be announced in the media, encouraging all Government agencies in the Virgin Islands to support the Girl Scouts in their efforts as they continue to develop their members as future leaders. Senate President Novelle E. Francis, Jr. stated that he that was honored to lead his colleagues in hosting the Girl Scout Leadership Day. Francis stated that “these girls are tomorrow’s leaders†and mentioned that it was fitting that they were there during Women’s History Month. Senators, legislative staff, government agencies and instrumentalities were represented by Girl Scouts for the mock session. The Girl Scouts of America was founded on March 12, 1912, in Savannah Georgia by Juliette Gordon Low.
