Mission The mission of the Emerging Caribbean Scientists (ECS) Program is to increase research training and promote excellence for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), psychology & nursing students at the University of the Virgin Islands. Goals  Increase the number of students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM) disciplines  Better prepare students in STEM disciplines for graduate school, medical school, other professional schools, and scientific careers  Provide funding for undergraduate student research  Provide role models for UVI students through the visiting scientists program  Provide enhanced curriculum through development and adoption of innovative instruction  Create mentoring relationships between UVI faculty and students Scholarship & Research Programs ECS Programs offer scholarships, research experiences, mentoring, curriculum development, and supplemental instruction to support students at UVI. Funding is provided by grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
