ACT NO. 8589 BILL NO. 34-0225 THIRTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Regular Session 2022 An Act amending title 5 Virgin Islands Code, subtitle 2, chapter 201, section 2539 to increase the penaLties for failure to report certain crimes ---0--- Be it enacted by the Legislature ofthe Virgin Islands: SECTION 1. TitleS, subtitle 2, chapter 201, section 2539 of the Virgin Islands Code is amended by striking “$500” and inserting “$1,000.’ and by designating the existing language as subsection (a) and inserting a new subsection (b) to read as follows: “(b) Any person, official, or institution required by this subchapter to report a case of alleged child abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect against a child and who knowingly fails to report an offense committed against a child under title 14, chapter 3A, § 133, 135, 136, or 137; chapter 23A; or chapter 24, § 506 (1) or 507 is guilty of a felony and shall be punished by a fine of not less than $5,000, but not more than $10,000, or a term of imprisonment of not less than two years, but not more than five years, or both fine and imprisonment …
