Anticipation built up as Dr. Smith de- scribed the winner without mentioning the person’s name. But when her name was an- nounced, an overwhelmed Judy Roland-Fahie couldn’t immediately accept her award. Over- come by emotion, Roland-Fahie had to take support in the lap of her colleague. She emerged teary-eyed. “This is truly a surprise,” Roland-Fahie said after containing herself. “Well, I’m feel- ing proud today.” Roland-Fahie, an adminis- trative specialist II, is the program coordina- tor of the Summer Science Enrichment Acad- emies and Mentoring Program. She is also the grant administrative specialist for several programs under UVI’s Emerging Caribbean Scientists Program – including MARC, RISE, HCOP and NASA scholarship programs. “I was able to, I hope, make an impact on students,” she said, which is the reward of her work. “It’s many sacrifices that I’ve made, but I’m proud of it,” she said. Roland- Fahie has worked at UVI for 14 years and is a “proud graduate” of UVI. “I thank you so, so much,” she said in closing. On the St. Croix campus, Human Re- sources staff became frantic when the cer- emony started and the employee of the year was nowhere to be found. They had the task of finding the employee and getting her to the ceremony without leading on that she was the employee of the year. So Joyce Hobson was delighted when she found out that she was chosen as Employee of the Year on the St. Croix campus. “I feel honored and humbled,” Hobson said of the award after the ceremony. There will also be several bands and various UVI displays. Main Street Merchants will donate a portion of their day’s proceeds to UVI.
