House H. R. H. the Prince of Wales in the course of replying to the toast of his: health said, ‘‘l saw a suggestion ‘beforé | left England that the British Empire might be willing to part with one or more British West Indian Islands to a foreign power and I should like to say here again what [ said in Barbados in Mareh that Brit- ish subjects are not for sale. I ecan assure you the King and all of us in the Old Country have very much at heart the weifare of .Lrinidad and all BritiS§h West Indies as of all :other Brit- ish possessions’’. In the evening there was an extensive firework display in charge of an expert from New York which “was witnessed by huge and ad- miring crowds” on the Queen’s Park, Savannah. The ball at the Prince’s Building was a very briliiant affair, de- tails of which will be given later. His Royal Highness has requested ‘that no formal arrangements be made for to- day and tomorrow. It is understood that today he is visiting the piteh luke and oil fields. Very few offices are open today and it is practically a pub- lic holiday. ~ : Washington, Sept. 16th.--Nearly half a dozen agencies of the United States Government were at work tonight.in an effort to solve\%he mystery of the explo- sion in New York’s Financial District, and to safeguard Government property from.similar damages. U. S. 2., WEDNESDAY 22nD SEPTEMRER 1920. Treasury, knstructors of the Post Office Department and experts of the Depart- ment of Agriculture were ordered to the scene of the explosion. Investigation of the origin of the explosion was ordered by Attérney General Palmer upon receipt of the first report from New York., and William J. Flynn, Chief of the Bureau of Investigation of the Department, left Washington for New York on the first train. Rome, Sept. 16th. Preparations for recruiting an Italian Soviet army are going on in Mildn, Turin, Rome, Naples and other large cities throughout the country accou%mz to the newspaper "'Epoca’ which prints a statement to this effect by a superior officer of the Italian army. It is said that one of the leaders of 'the Soviet organization is Entico Malatesta, the anarchist chief. Trinidad, Sept. 19th.—The Ball at Prince’s Building an Friday night was a brilliant and successful function. Lights shone radiantly .along the carriage drive which had a handsome archway erected at the entran~c and exit and their out- lines were ablaze with lights at the en- tracee the word ''Welcome'’ appeared in very large letters of white on a crimson background, There was a klaze of light without and within the building ard decorations arranged with a skill not seen before in Trinidad. At 10.30 p. m, His Royal Highness reached the building from Government House accompanird by H. E. rhe Goavernor, l.ady Chancellor, Admiral Halsey and other members of the Prince’s, the Governor’s and the Ad- miral’s Staff. Many officers from the “Renown’’, the ‘‘Calcutta’’ and the “"Caliope’’ were present and davcing was kept aip ungili4 a. m. H. R H. the Prince danced the first waltz with Lady Chancellor. After Supper at 11.30 p. m. he danced with three other ladies and left about 1 a. m. On every occasion the Prince appeared on the Balcony he was greeted with vociferous cheers from the enormous erowd outside. The Music was supplied by the Band of the "‘Re- nown’’upto 1a m. apd after that by a String Band known as ‘‘Loveys’’. The roof of the Supper Room was composed of one long 2entre line of Red, White and Blue with streamers extending to the walls on whieh were clusters of flags. Directly over the Prince’s Party and above the chairs occupied by His Royal Highhess and His Excellency was sus- pended a large Crown of Red, White and Blue draperies and lights, strings of which descended to the sides of the walls. ey @Y "she tabl.es were all beautifully arranged.
