The Dort- mund police, in endeavouring to dis- perse the gathering, fived several shots .nto the crowd, kiliing several ,persons and wounding many others. The anger- od arowds attacked the police, of whom many were wounded. Similar demons- trations oceurred at the Scharnhorst mine, near by, where several workmen were killed and others wounded by the police. 'The mivers sirike was brought about by Commurnist agitators on de- mands for higher wages, and they are now reported to be trying to effect a eneral strike throughout the Dortmund avea, affeciing 200,000 workers.
