September 29 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS— Governor Albert Bryan Jr. marked a momentous occasion today as he signed into law the bill authorizing a land exchange agreement between the National Park Service and the Government of the Virgin Islands. The agreement paves the way for the construction of a new state-of-the-art pre-K-12 school in St. John, bringing an end to a 50-year effort by multiple governors and administrations. Governor Bryan emphasized the magnitude and historic significance of this accomplishment, stating, “Today’s signing represents the realization of a long-held dream for the residents of St. John. For far too long, our students have had to travel to St. Thomas to receive their education. This bill signing signifies a new era of accessible education on St. John, and it is a testament to the perseverance of our community.” The new school will not only serve as a hub for education but also as a critical storm shelter and community center for the island of St. John. Governor Bryan expressed his gratitude to the nine senators in the 35th Legislature of the Virgin Islands for their unwavering support of this legislation. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the dedicated legislators who understood the importance of this project and worked tirelessly to make it a reality. This achievement is a testament to what can be accomplished when leaders come together with a shared vision,” Governor Bryan said. Lieutenant Governor Tregenza A. Roach, Esq., Senate President Novelle E. Francis and At-Large Senator Angel Bolques joined Governor Bryan at Friday’s bill signing along with Education Commissioner Dr. Dionne Wells-Hedrington and St. John Administrator Shikima Jones-Sprauve. The Bryan-Roach Administration is investing in the Territory’s people, infrastructure, and future through transparency, stabilizing the economy, restoring trust in the government and ensuring that recovery projects are completed as quickly as possible.
