This part of the service was exceedingly impressive, and our thoughts wandered back to the days of old, when the Jewish community was numerous, and recalling the Fidanques, and Delvalles and Morons and others, we were reminded of what an important part the Hebrews had been and still are in our social and commercial life ; how the withering of their numbers meant the decadence of our culture and business.
