There wouid appear to be a lying con- test among magazine writers in the States as regards the Virgin Islands. _Each scems to_go the other tne better until we row have a production which should certainly take the belt and hold it | up for some time. This confusion, we mean effusion, under the caption of “Virgin Islands in the Doldrums”’, is reprinted in this issue for the entertain- ment of those readers who have not lost their s2nse of humor, and know how to accept and recognize garbage from a continental kitchen. It will no doubt convince many that human imagination is boundless. LQCAL. Smith, Workroom Chairman; Entertainment, Mrs. Alice Dyer, Chairman; Home Ser- vice, Mr. Roberr Szeoch, Chairman: Fin- ance, (Chairman to be elzcted).—Com. Help Wanted! The Red Cross Sewing Committee asks your help in two' ways. : If you can come regularly to help sew for the destitute here and abroad, please come to the Red Cross Office at three o’clock on Tuésday, May 17. Plans will then be made for regulai meetings for the purpose. If you have partly worn garments which can be cut over for children, please send them to the office or telephone for them to be called for. Only clean gar- ments should be sent. Clothing suitable for use in devastited Europe will be made over for this purpose, as the Chris- tiansted Branch is desirous of doing Its part to help the Red Cross carry out its pledge of 250 milion garmeonts for the naked and suffering children of Central Europe. Clothing which is only suitable for tropical wear will be made over for \ use here, and disiributed through the hospitals, ete. Please look over your wardrobe and send in what you can spave at once. If desired, it will be called for. The lower pa-t of a,man’s shirt will .ake a little dress for a;hi'd; trousers can be cut over for the boys ; nver mind if things arefaded so long as they are clean and rot too tender to be made over, Here is your chance to help the Red Cross.
