GOVERNMENT OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES BUREAU OF MOTOR VEHICLES PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW IN OBTANING A VIRGIN ISLANDS DRIVER’S LICENSE: FIRST TIME APPLICANT 1. Obtain an Application/ Medical Form for a Driver’s License (good for 1 year) from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The Application must be completed by the Applicant OR locally Certified Physician. If you are under 18 years (must be at least 16 years of age), please obtain a Parent or Guardian Financial Consent Form (BMV FORM NO. 2019-012) from the BMV and have your parent or legal guardian complete the form, sign, date, notarize and return to the BMV. All Minors must present a Certificate of Completion from a Certified Driving Education Program. You are also required to bring the following: a. Identification (Bring 1) b. Social Security Number (Bring 1) c. Residential Address (Bring 2) -Certified U.S. birth certificate -Valid, unexpired, U.S. passport -Certificate of Naturalization -Certificate of Citizenship -Consular proof of birth abroad -Alien registration receipt card (green card, form I-551) -Work Authorization Permit Card -Social Security Card -DD 214 -SSA 1099 -NON-SSA 1099 -Stamped IRB Income -Tax Return -Deed, mortgage, payment booklet, or rental agreement -Utility bill or hookup/work order -Property tax statement -Home Insurance Statement -Notarized statement from person you live with along with one address document (see above) in that person’s name NO TWO (2) DOCUMENTS FROM THE SAME SOURCE 2. Purchase the Driver manual ($20.00) so that you may prepare for the Knowledge Skills Exam. 3. Purchase and make an appointment to take the Knowledge Skills Exam ($20.00). Between the hours of 8:30am -10:30 am, Monday thru Friday. A passing grade of 75% or higher is required. 4. Purchase the Learner’s Permit ($20.00) which will be valid for six (6) months 5. Purchase and make an appointment to take the Road Skills Exam ($20.00). Once you have completed all of the above, a 5-year driver’s license will be issued to you for the fee of $55.00. Expired United States/US Territory or Foreign Driver’s License If you have an EXPIRED United States, US Territory or Foreign Driver’s License and would like to acquire a V.I. Driver’s License, you have to provide us with your Driver’s License Record (Abstract Record) from the DMV in state, territory or country that issued the license, and follow steps 1 through 5 in the First Time Applicant section. Jun. 23-2020 GOVERNMENT OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES BUREAU OF MOTOR VEHICLES Valid United States/US Territory or Foreign Driver’s License Conversion If you have a VALID United States, US Territory or Foreign Driver’s License, you will need to provide the BMV with documents in 1. a, b and c above, along with your driver’s license verification document - driving history/record from the state, territory, or country for which your license was issued. The license will be converted for the fee of $55.00 Taxi Driver’s License Endorsement Applicant must be either a citizen of the United States or an immigrant alien admitted to the United State for permanent residence, shall not be younger than 21 years nor older than 65 years, must be licensed driver for at least 3 yrs. and must establish a continuous and unbroken residence in the Virgin Islands of the United States at least one year prior to application. The exam is administered at the Taxi Cab Commission. When you have successfully passed the exam and receive your Badge, you will bring that along the items from Sections a, b and c to get your Taxi Endorsement on your valid driver’s license. Automobile for Hire Class A Driver’s License with Endorsement C is $55.00. SCHEDULE BY ISLAND ST.
