HE President o the United States T having degignated, Thursday. the 24th November as a day of national thanksgiving, I. Sumner E. W. Kittelle, Governor of the Virgin Islands ol th» United States, do solemnly urge upon a'l the people of the Virgin Islands, on that day, to congregate in their usual piaces of worship and there to give d en anl sincere thanks, to the Great Giver of All Good. for-the manifold blessings, boin spiritual and matorial, which have been showered upon tfiese isiands. The cataclysms of the great world war passed us by and the after effecs have visited us in triflinz degree as com- pared with our brothers in-other countries. We are spared the great inclemencies of weather that bring such suffering to the poor in colder climes and destructive storms have not swep: over our dwell- ings. The very gret probiem of un- employment which at home faces seme four miliion of our countrymen, is to us sreatly softened and starvationis unknown in our midst. We have basked under the most beneficent worldly government that the earth has ever known, while a great European country has suffered untold cruelty and desolation under the tyrant rule of bolshevists. Wars are still rag- ing in places on earth but we reside amidst peace ands the transcendent beauties of Nature. Epidemics have not come upon.us but health eonditions con- tinue to improve in our communaities. We may all go about our respective tasks freely and fearlessly, knowing that no man may unjustly detain us. Our local proble ns are not so serious as those of the world at large and all are capable of solution if we banish greed and consider them unselfishly. We have indeed been blessed above many of our f{ellows and our gratitude should be heartfelt. Spiritually the feelinz of brotherly love reigns over us in an unusual degree, and this greatest of soul qualities will, gradu- ally and in the ages to come, prove to e the only possible solution of t(he present world troubles. Our hearts are kindly disposed toward the others of our com- munity and we have the constant inner urge to serve those less fortunate than ourselves. The spirit of all the people has been intensely patriotic and hearts are religiously inclined to act upon prin- ciple rather than trom greed and selfish- ness. Regardless of race or station the spirit of amity actuates us.
