The buildings are.all of reinforced con- crete and mcdern and sanitary in every way. With the exception of an admin- istration building and the dining hall which are being erected and a hospital building whicn is desigued to care for sixty children, most of the buildings are of a standard two-rocim-cottage type costing approximately $2.300 each. Ap- proximately $40,000 has been donated for the building of these cottages. The Porto'Rico Regiment has given tunds to build vne cottage, the (obacco workers have given one, KEduardo Giorgetti has given another, the Fajardo Sugar Co. has provided another, an< so on. In ad- dition to these buildings for patients a library is being erected and another huilding is for a moving victure show. MOSt of the cottages are huilt in groups ciose together so that f.om four to six ¢ottages can he joined rozether by’ bal- conies, While the cottages are complete- iy detached from each ccher, neverthe- less, the balconies make the cottages in each group easily accessaole for all of the patients confined in a given group. Practically all of the w rk so far has been done by administration under the direction of the Deparrment of Sanita- tion and a great deal his been accom- plished with the comuvaratively small amount of money avaliable. Dr. Soler hopes that gifts for thkis work will be continued until at least fifty buildings can be erected, Thiz wili provide ample quarters for at least 400 patients, it is believed, besides the n2cessary adminis- tration and recreation buiidings. With thirty-seven buildings either com- pleied or under construction the Insular’ ‘Luberculosis Hospital near Rio Piedras this week received most of the patients who hzve been cared for in the Insular Quarantine Station in the Marina since the old {'uberculosis Sanatorium in S-bo- ruco was moved prior to the building of Carap Las ‘'asas. Dr. A, Ruiz Soler, the commissioner of heatth, on Monday mvited about 75 men, including the members of rhe Superior Board 7¢ Heaith and many vhysicians, to visit theihew hospital grounds and make an inspection. The new hospital buildings are being built on the plot of ground given to the Insular Government by Don Pedro Arzu- aga, of Sobrinos de Ezquiaga, to be used as a site for the hospital.
