NDER the provision of paragraph U 28. Sanitary Regulations for the towns of Christiansted and Freaerik- sted. Municivality of St. Croix, of Janu ary 30, 1886 authorizing the Board of Health to control the sale of provisions and by the authority placed in the Chief Sanitation Officer by the Governor to assume the functions of the Board of Health, the following measures are here- by set forth to take effect November Ist. 1920 Bread, cakes, pies, pastries and candies offered for sale or kept for the purpose of beirg so'd must be protected from flies, dirt and dust at all times. : —All persons engaged in making bread, cakes, pies, pastries and candies for sale, must do so in room 80 screened that is absolutely fly-proef, such room not to be used as a bed-room, living room, or for any purpose other than the making of bread, pies, cakes, pastries and candies. It is forbidden to allow dogs, -cats, chickens, ducks and all other animals in any room used for the purpose of making bread, cakes, pies- pastries and candies. All persons engaged in the preparation, handling or sale of such provisions as enumerated above, must be free from disease, wear clean clothes and have clean hands, including clean finger nails. All shops, stores and stands keeping any of the above enumerated provisions for sale must do soin a screened con- tainer that is absolutely fly-proof. All provisions as enumerzted above not prepared, kept or soud in accordance with the above rules will be considered ~as injurious to health and will be des- trcyed as provided for in paragraph 28 of the Sanitary Regulations for the towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted, _ "Municipality of St. Croix of January 30 1886. With reference toa news item pub- lished some days ago to the effect that the Blectric Co. had secured an engine rrom the Bethlenhem concern, it is now further advised that the intention to make us: of that engine had to be abandoned as it was found that the engine would not fully suit the work. Mr. Fabio now informs us-that a new engine has been cabled for and is expected to go forward by earliest ocportunity. He will probably analyse Visccunt Grey’s proposals for a settlement and also Mr. Asquith’s which appears in a letter .to the Times this morning. The latter’s suggestion, grant- ing Ireland the status of an autonomous dominion in the fullest and widest sense, is received with geuneral skepticism. The Evering Standard whole-heartedly a coalition organ, endorses what it alleges is being said generally in pclitical cireles today, namely that it would be the most absolute surrender to violeance on re- cord, and concludes with the half suz- gestion that the Liberals may possibly repudiate the Asquith’s leadership, or there may be a permanent split in their ranks, equal in effect to that following Mr.Gladstone’s conversion v Home Rule. The Westminster Gazette which usually gives its bendiction to Mr. Asquiths sen- timents, treats his iatest proposal tonight with merely distant respeci, bharking back to its own earlier announcement that the Irish people have suffered a to- tal loss of faith in the seriousness and honesty of purpose of the British Gov- ernment.
