ORDINANCE T 0 PROVIDE FOR LOANS FROM THE IMMIGRATION FUND T® AS- SIST IN BRINGING THE ISLAND OF SAINT CROIX UNDER A NORMAL ST ITE OF CULTIVATION OF-SU- CAR LANE BT, All persons desirous ofobtaining loans 1n accordance with the above- mentioned srdinance can obtain the requisite blank forms on applica- tion to the Colonial Council Offize in Christiapsted and at the Police Ufice in Frederiksted. While we would be ¢lad to seea goid landing place in Frederiksted still I be- lieve that the,*rge wharf is in need of repairs. It has %o support at all and may collapse in a Mry short time. When we Lave more funds a bill can be introduced to take care of the small wharf. Ist Member for Frederiksted Country District (Fleming) remarked: Mr. Chair- | man. [ was living in Frederiksted when | the addition was made to the whari. Piles were put in and under the wharf | was filled up with sand. Since then the sea has taken the sand away. bat con- | crete is under the piles and so the wharf } is not likely to coliapse. As Frederik- | sted is the landing port and this whar{ is | of such use to the community I advocate | that the wharf be repaired. It would be | a shame for the Fleet to go there and | land the men on such a wharf. I recom- | mend the bill to the favorable considera- | tion of the Couneil. | 3rd Member for Christiansted Country Listriet (Robt. W. Skeoch) remarked: Mr. Chairman. | am not an engineer, but if the idea is to repair the whart before the Fleet comes in 1 would pro- pose that the wharf be removed entirely. Interpellation to Governmant by Ist Member for Christiansted Country District (Jessen). 1. Is the Government aware that the buildings of the ‘‘Public Village’’at Kingshill are in great nead of re- pairs ? 2. When will the Government consent to grant .the amount for defraving repairing expenses as requested by the commission administering said public village ? 3. Ifow des the Government interpret Seetions 3 and 5 of Ordirance of 18th January 1913 with reference to the poiviege of the Commssion to dis- posc over the funds belonging to said public village? 15t Membsr for Christiansted Country Distriet (Jessen) said,—Mr. Chairman. ] am asking these guestions net on be- half of the Viliage Usmmission but on my own behaif. In consequence of the oale of 1916 there is no water obtainable in the village. An estimate for repairs in the village was made by the Publie Works Oflicer but up to now nothing has been done. The only information available is a | reply to a voluntary request on the part of Government, dated 30 June 1922 to the Chairman of the Public Village Fund, for certain informa- tion. This was apparently for in- formation sake only. It is the duty of the Commission to bring to the ! notice of Government the eondition 1 , of the ‘‘Public Village” at King’s ‘ Hill and peniing the receipt of a report from said Commission, Gov- ecmeat has no further informition to offer. 2. Government wiil be pleased to take up this matter with the Commission as soon as offic.al request ils made 10 Government by the Chairman of the Co nmission. With reference to Section & of ; said Ordinance, Government 1s not ‘ in receipt of the yearly report re- -1 farred to and is therefore unable to | jay this matter befure the Colooial Council.
