ACTNO. 8539 BILL NO. 34-0187 THIRTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Regular Session 2022 An Act changing the date for commencing the 2022 Regular Session of the Legislature of the Virgin Islands to January 24, 2022 ---0--- WHEREAS. Section 7(a) of the Revised Organic Act of the Virgin Islands, 48 U.S.C. § 1573(a), provides in pertinent part that: “Regular sessions of the legislature shall be held annually, commencing on the second Monday in January (unless the legislature shall [by] law fix a different date), and shall continue for such term as the legislature may provide”; WHEREAS, the Department of Health has advised the people of the Virgin Islands that the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the Territory in concert with the rapidly increasing community transmission and the Omicron varianis presence in the Territory indicate the need for continued vigilance with the established COVID-19 protocols; WHEREAS, changing the commencement date for the 2022 annual regular session from the second Monday in January to (he fourth Monday in January will allow the Legislature additiona …
