What happens after I apply for a passport? Once you’ve applied for your passport, your application is transmitted to the Department of State for review. This process could take 4-6 weeks for routine service, and 3 ½ weeks for expedited service. If you haven’t received your passport within the respective time, please contact the National Passport Information Center by calling 1-877-487-2778. A Customer Service Representative will be more than happy to update you on the status of your application.
