ST. CROLIX STATION. Harrisburg, Pa. Sept. 6th.—Mr Lewis, Prasident of the Miners Union, called to- night a formal meeting of the unions scale committee to meet at 1 p. m. tumorrow to pass judgement on the situation. Both union officials and representatives of the mine operators agree to meet Governor Pinchot again at 3 p m. tomorrow for further negotiations. Governor Pinchot’s protracted attempt to bring operators and miners to an agreement upou the ftour points which he tendered as a basis of settlement of the d fliculty, he an- nounced at the conclusion of executive gessions with them today, hed been suc- cessful in part. He gave out a summary of the situation, upon waich Mr. Lewis could make no comment, but wiich Mr. Warriner, Chairman of the Operators Policy Committee. declared to be accept- able. In it the operators swere repre- sented to have left out all of the demands for arbitration of wage scales. The union leaders and the operators group, the Governor said, had agreea upon de- finitione for the various terms. The Governor’s original settlement proposals, h> pointed out, bad involved granting of the eight hour day, fu!l recognition of the union by the operators, a uniform increase of ten per cent for all employees apd the recognition of collective bargain- ing in the industry. It had been”agreed that in establishing the eight hour day the men whose working hours had been juced would be given increase identi- cal with those agreed upon for mainten- ance men whe are being kept at work during the suspension of mining.
