Washington, March Ist.-—Nineteen thousand Armenians were massacred when the French evacuated Mavash. A coblegram from Constantinople greceived here today says, '‘Regret to inform vou the Freneh troops evacuated Marash during the night. Unfortunately they did not inform anyone on the following day, surprised by this sudden release. three thousand Armenians made their first exit. They were massacred. Fif- teen hundred others suceeeded in reach- ing Ishie, but a great number of them were frozen. OQut of twenty thousand re maining in the town, sixteen thousand were massacred.
