Glssgow, Sept. 25:h.-—Seventy lives are believed to have beon lost early to- day, in one of the worst colliery disas- ters in the history of the Scotch mines, in which a deep pit at the James Nimmo Company’s coiliery near Falkirk, was flooded. The water which flooded the pit broke through the wails of an adjoining pit which had not been used for many years. The active pit was flooded so quickly that there was no op- portunity to warn the miners. They had n) chance to get to the pithead and only o1 man escapzd after the inrush of water begun. Frantic relatives of the v:etims rushed to the pithead, at which rescuers hastily began work, but little if any hope was entertained of saving any of the unfortunates. On the last 27 holes Kirkvrood shot the g eatest golf of his career, squaring the maten on the 28th with a birdie two and taking the lead with an eagle three on the thirtieth, a crook hold® 465 yards in length. Mr. Fielding said, “'l have received with great pleasure, but not with surprise the news of the success that promises to at- tend the issue of the new Canadian Gov- ernment refunding loan. The Canadian people have also responded to every call made upon them for subscriptions to tke Government loans. The Government are now offering an issue of bonds uader conditivns which permit investors to obtain securities backed by the entire re- sources of the dominion, yielding income veturns which place them in a class by themselves among bonds of stable ecun- tries. The subsciibers will give the dominion the deserved financial support and at the same time make a profitable investment.
