Dublin, Oect. sth.—A military patrol having taken possession of the corres- pondence which arrived this morning by train, a group of merchants has request- od that the letters be delivered after their examination. Cork, Oct. sth.—-Shots were exchanged this morning betwe:n a military patrol and a number of persons and later the military were compelled to use machine- guns. Ir the evening an armed party atracked a police barrack, taking prison- ors eleven policemen and capturing a large quantity of arms and ammunition. The building was burned by the rebels. Berlin, Oect. sth —Herr Dittmann, a member of the independent socialist par- ty of the Reichstag has declared that only dreamers can believe that the Rus- sian Red Army can triumph in Germany and establisn a Soviet by the aid of which it would make war on France. Herr bDittmann, who was one of the German delegation to the Communist Congress at Moscow, has made a study of Bolshevism and in an article pub- lished by the ‘'Freitag’’ declared it to be an impossible system, owing to tne great ignorance of the Russian peas- ants. The German workingmen, he adds, will never submit to such dictator- ship and he concludes by declaring that his countrymen have nothing in com- mon with men who are neither social- ists nor communists and who have only vague conception of politics, gov- ernment and society. The greater numn- ber of the Russian Bolshevists are unable to read and write and their intellectual horizon does not exceed their visial power, as was the case with the peasants of the middle ages. These men nevertheless constitute seventy- five per cent of the population of the country. A fervent idealism and blind passions have raised the Soviet of Rus- sia to the category of a promised land where all the troubles of the Proletariat come to an end. Donald Mec Don- ald on Saturday last from the Air Minis- try, London, as follows: ‘‘Deeply regret to inform you that cable from Baghdad states Flying officer I. D. R. McDonald, M. C. D. F. C., was shot down and taken prisoner on the 22nd of Sept. He is now reported to have been killed at Dagsetora. His body was placed in a coffin and for three days was Kkept in the house. In accordance with an old custom, the nei hbors call- ed to pay their last respects and to partake of whatever refreshments were provided. On the evening of the fourth day, according to an account vouched for by a score of witnesses, as the "'mourn- ers’’ were hilariously eating and drink- ing, there was astirin the coffin. The “‘dead’”’” man slowly raised himself to a sit'ing posture and in these words re buked his family and th.se assembled to ‘‘ecomfort’’ them:— "‘You thought me dead. [ may have been, but the sounds of your revelry awoke me. Shame on you all for spend- ing my money in feasting! [ have done vith you and prefer the next world to your society.’’ Jonssen’s eyes closed, his body re- laxed, and he sank back into the coffin, actually dead this time. The funeral and burial occurred the following day, attended by everybody in the village.- Barbados Globe.
