COMMITTEE ON HOUSING, TRANSPORTATION AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS BILL NO. 36-0017 Thirty-Sixth Legislature of the Virgin Islands February 27, 2025 An Act amending title 3 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 9, section 138 relating to the powers of the Department of Public Works to provide for the operation of the Virgin Islands Transit System PROPOSED BY: Senator Avery L. Lewis Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: 1 SECTION 1. Title 3 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 9, section 138, subsection (a) is 2 amended by designating paragraph (11) as paragraph (12) and inserting a new paragraph (11) 3 that reads as follows: 4 “(11) operate and maintain the Virgin Islands Transit System (VITRAN) and provide 5 public transportation services on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John, seven days a week, 6 including weekends and holidays.” 7 BILL SUMMARY 8 The bill codifies the authority of the Department of Public Works to operate and maintain 9 the VITRAN and requires that VITRAN to provide transportation services seven days a week, 10 including weekends and holidays on St. Croix, St. …
