A discussion had been proceeding for some time in regard to various suggestions for dealing with the situation, but no agreement had been reached. One propo- sal was ;that German forces should be permitted to occupy the Ruhr are under guarantees to be defined by Marshal Foch. London, April 9th—The ‘‘Times’’ says that a crisis has arisen in Anglo-French relations and that contrary to the as- surance that the differences of opin- ion between the Allies regarding the violation of the neutral zone by Ger- man troops were about to be composed by a friendly understanding, it appears that the DBritish Govt. yesterday took steps to emphasize their disagree- ment with the policy of France. Dur- ing the day the French Ambassador had a long interview with Lord Curzon and soon afterwards, the paper continues, one of the Premier’s Private Secretaries, Mr. Philip Kerr, of Bullitt Fame, invi- ted the representatives of the provincial press to Downing Street and informed them of Mr. Lloyd George’s standpoint. Simultaneously a private communication on similar lines was addressed to the London press, and various communiques were issued for publication through the news agencies. Inese statements are understoond to have been on the same lines °'s. Lord Curzon’s repre- sentations to the French Ambassador. In official quarters last evening it was alleged that a note had been des- patched to the French Govt. through the British Ambassador at Paris. The substance of the Premier’s arguments is that by her occupation of German towns in the neutral zone France had acted against his views and the wishes of the other allied statesmen and without consultation with them.
