Censure, criticise and hate and you will be censured ecriticised and hated by your fellow men. Every seed brings forth its kind. So I suggest that the best thing to do is to follow these principles of life. WHY CHANGE OQOUR GOVERNOI’ MAJORITY OF ST.THOMIANS WOUL LIKE HIM SERVE A SECOND TERM. Who is going to be our next Gover- nor? This is one of the questions that is being considered most by the inhabi- tants of St. Thomas at the present time. But above all conjecture, is heard ex- pressed the wish that Rear Admiral J. W. Oman be retained in his pre- sent incumbency for at least another term. And this with good reason. We have always considered it an un- wise policy to change our officials as frequently as is done especially those whose administration give satisfaction to the !majority of those they govern. The chief point in opposition to the practice of a one-time incumbency of office, and the only one we mentigp, is the fact that such changes are gener- ally made just at the time when bot sides have begun to appreciate thh efforts, or position of the other, also leaving the policy of the former ad- ministration to be carried out by his successor, who, not having the know- ledge gained by, or the mind of his predecessor, may b. inclined to adopt a radical change of poiicy. This in turn, not suiting th. people’s condition, and therefore not being con- ducive towards their happiness or pro- sperity, must, most naturally cause dissatisfaction and aistrust; or in a word, plant the seed whence all the evil that divides two people must spring. ~_Most §t. Thomians have given up the idea which they acquired thru their fer- vent patriotism that every man who is an American, or every article which is Awmerican, must necessarily be good. They have learned to realize that while American institutions have pro- duced the best type of administrator, that while the greatest of philantro- phy is stretched forth from America eveu unto the uttermost ends ofethe earth to rescue and succor su?e\ing
