The review is being conducted under Docket 691 in accordance with the Commission’s legal obligation to investigate the rates and services of regulated utilities at least once every five years. Docket 691 was opened to examine the rates and services provided between Red Hook and Cruz Bay, as well as between Charlotte Amalie and Cruz Bay, pursuant to an exclusive franchise jointly held by Varlack Ventures and Transportation Services of St. John. The Commission emphasized that public participation is a critical component of the review process and encouraged residents, ferry customers, and other interested parties to submit written comments for inclusion in the official record. The Ferry Franchise companies have requested an increase in rates. Public comments may be submitted through the Commission’s online survey and comment form, by email to psc.info@psc.vi.gov, by fax at 340-774-4971, by mail to the Public Services Commission, P.O. Box 40, St. Thomas, VI 00804, or by hand delivery to the Commission’s offices at Barbel Plaza in St. Thomas or Estate Carlton, Suites 1 and 2, in Frederiksted, St. Croix. The public comment period will remain open through Friday, January 30, 2026. Additional information is available on the Commission’s website at psc.vi.gov under “Regulated Utilities,” “Ferryboats,” and “Docket 691.” Following the close of the public comment period, the Commission will hold formal Public Hearings on both St. John and St. Thomas.
