Frederick WHEREAS, Sharon Maria Williams was born and raised on St. Croix; 1 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams was raised alongside her siblings, Glenis Williams, Lindel 2 Williams, Wayne Williams, Patrice Williams, Brian Williams (who passed shortly after birth), 3 and Raymond Williams, whose shared family foundation and values helped shape her lifelong 4 dedication to education, service, and the Virgin Islands community; 5 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams went to elementary school at the St. Patrick’s Catholic 6 School and then graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School; 7 WHEREAS, in 1978, Ms. Williams earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home 8 Economics Education from Cheyney College in Pennsylvania and, in 2006, she earned a Master 9 of Science in Management and Administration of Educational Programs from the University 10 of Phoenix; 11 WHEREAS, in 1978, Ms. Williams began her teaching career with the Virgin Islands 12 Department of Education as a Home Economics teacher at Arthur A. Richards Junior High 13 School where she served until 1985; 14 2 WHEREAS, from 1985 to 1988, Ms. Williams also served as an Extension Agent with 1 University of the Virgin Islands Extension Services; 2 WHEREAS, in 1988, Ms. Williams continued her career with the Virgin Islands 3 Department of Education as a Home Economics teacher at the St. Croix Central High School, 4 where she served until 2007 and was later appointed Department Chair prior to her retirement; 5 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams has received many awards to include: 6 o Grand Champion Cook at St. Croix Agriculture & Food Fair 2003, 2004, and 7 2005 8 o Lew Muckle Elementary School Teacher of the Year- 2004 and 2005 9 o VIP member of Cambridge Who's Who – 2010 10 o New Horizon Women's Democratic Club Influential Women of the Virgin 11 Islands Award – 2011 12 o Power M.O.V.E Conference Advocate for Parenting Award – 2013 13 o Caterer for the 175th Year Emancipation Celebration; 14 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams is a member of the St. Croix Alumnae Chapter of Delta 15 Sigma Theta Sorority and a member of the Grove Place Action Committee; 16 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams has always loved the culinary arts, and at the age of seven, 17 she received a cookbook from her mother, Inez Byron Williams, which became the inspiration 18 for her love for food preparation; 19 WHEREAS, always passionate both on nutrition and taste, Ms. Williams’ talent caused 20 her to start her catering business, Chef Sherri Catering; 21 WHEREAS, Chef Sherri Catering has prepared thousands of meals for weddings, 22 birthday parties, and anniversaries; 23 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams also volunteers her time preparing meals for the Department 24 of Human Services at the Richmond Senior Center; 25 3 WHEREAS, Ms. Williams has prepared Liberty Day meals in the Grove Place 1 community for over thirty years where she is famous for her roast pork, roast goat, sweetbread, 2 and crucian black cake along with other local delicacies; Now, Therefore, 3 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: 4 SECTION 1. The Legislature of the Virgin Islands, on behalf of the people of the Virgin 5 Islands, honors and commends Ms. Sharon Maria Williams for her outstanding achievements 6 and significant contributions to the fields of education and culinary arts in the Virgin Islands. 7 SECTION 2. In recognition and appreciation of her contributions, the President of the 8 Legislature, or the President’s designee, shall present perma plaque copy of this resolution to 9 Ms. Sharon Maria Williams at an appropriate ceremony held for that purpose. 10 BILL SUMMARY 11 This bill honors and commends Ms. Sharon Maria Williams for her outstanding 12 achievements and significant contributions to the fields of education and culinary arts. 13 BR25-0287A/November 20, 2025 (Revised-01/22/26)/PFA 14
