R. LARSEN, ; Postmaster. - . EDITORIAL. _ Jt.is alleged that the fishermén are refusing to sell fish to certain persons, members of the Food Commission. This is mueh to be regretted. all the more so as there is no obvious ground for such action. In the public sale of food- stuffs there should be no discrimination between persons; and without entering into any discussion as to moral or legal justification for such attitude it is hop- ed that there is no serious occasion for concern in this matter, and that a spirit of cooperation and amicability will be encouraged for the common good. LOCAL. Two canepiece fires occurred at Estate Fredensborg on Monday night, cause 2nd extent of damage not reported. The weather was rainy all yesterday with strong northerly wind. Reports from the country indicate general raia- fall on most midland estates and to- ward West End quarter, in some places as much as 16 lines, measured. The guage at the Police Office here reccrds 1% lines to this morning. The Vigilant due today with St. Tho- mas mails has not shown up and we have no news concerning her detemtion but attribute it to the boisterous weather of yesterday with neavy seas which were running until evening. : Frederiksted, 14th Feb. 1921. The American motor schnr. Mystery 73 tons, Capt. C. R. S. Bryant, arrived here on Saturday from Porto Rico via St. Thomas. She brought no mail and left again on Saturday at 9 p. m. The American schnr. Poeahontas, 37 tons, Capt. Conrado de Jesus, arrived here on Sunday morning from Porto Rico via St. Thomas with 22 tons general cargo and 62 bags of mail and left again at 6 p, m. on Sunday. The sloop Carib leaves today for Porto Rico. Correspondence To the Editor of the St. Crowx Avis. Dear Sir, It s very strange how some people. who, by the way, oug! t to know, and do know better, infringe upon the laws. It has appeared a few times in the newspaper the way in which Dr. Long- field-Smith drives his ear across corners without sounding his horn. This is in direct disregard of Chapter 12, Part 2, Section 65 us the Police Regulations. Will the Police do their duty in seeing that the law is obeyed by this gentle- man, or will they allow him to continue breaking the law at will ? This gentleman seems to have an utter disregard for the law, as far as the abovementioned paragraph is concerned, and the sooner the Police shows him that he is not abrve the law, the quicker and better he will observe them. New York, Feb. 9th.-—-The sensational story cabled {rom London by the ecorres- pondert of a United States ne spaper agency on Monday night, stating that an official of the British Foreign Office had issued a statement alleging Anglo- American relations to be strained, was’ generally discredited here. None of the leading New York papers printed the story yesterday, thougl. today editions carry despaiches from Washington or l.ondon deprecating jit. It is generally believea that if such a statement was made it was altogether unofficial and was merely presented in the form of a re- guest to the correspondents to exercise care in handling news dealing with mat- ters which might possibly cause ili- feeling in either country, the corres- pondent who sent the story not under- standing its confidential nature. A spe- cial from Washington to the ‘‘World”’ quotes Secretary of State Colby as say- ing, ‘‘The report, as it reached me.
