The maii will be transported by land from I' ederiksted and will in all probability often be received herz as late as 5.00 p. m. for whieh reason oniy the first class matter vill be distribaced and delivered the same evening. Perishable matter received outside will also be delivered if called for before dolivery is concluded. The Postay] Laws forbid unauthorized persons beinyg in the workrooms of post offices when mail is being opened, and those who make it a practice of using the back en- trane2 to the office will kindiy understand this. Clearly if one or two or more per- sons miy be ad nitted¥nto the workroom and expedited there for their spaeial cenvenience the whole public mayv be a’lmitted which would be manifestly irregular. F., Sept. 21st.—Mr. IFreeman, Managzing Director of the St. George’s Coalfields, Ltd., has reczived a message from Captain Furlong, who is row at work clearing up the St George’s coalfields in preparation for the inspec- tion by a party of mining engineers, who are due to arrive here in October. The message conveyed the information of the discovery of a new seam of coal eight feet wide. Mr. Downey, Minister of Agriculture and Mines, received a message yesterday from Mr. Henry Par- sons, Poad Oilfields, saying that on Mon- day they struck a new well at 1,000 reet and encountered heavy gas and good first grade )il was shown.
