DISTINGUISHED ACKIEVEMENT MEDALS (Board of Trustees Meeting, March 4 and 5, 1978) The Board turned to a proposal to award medals for distin- guished achievement and service, a subject which had been discussed previously by the Board. The Guidelines contained in the proposal follow: 1. 2. 36 4. De Te Those honored at Commencement on each Campus will number each year from zero to four. Those selected to be honored will be chosen by the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees will make its determination from a group of not more than 10 to be presented to them each year for each Commencement. The President will generate proposals from various sectors of the College community for the purpose of nomination. The award will be in the form of a medallion, encased properly, and the award will be accompanied by an inscribed statement of accomplishment to be read at Commencement. The basis for the award will be to recognize "people who have through service and achievements contributed to the well-being and growth of the Virgin Islands." This basis rests on previous discussions of the Board of Trustees. It is proposed to designate the awards as the "Trustees' Distinguished Achievement Awards." 122 123 In addition to the above guidelines, the Board of Trustees ~~ acted to include an 8th entry to read: 8. Trustees will not be eligible during the period of their service on the Board of Trustees for these Distinguished Achievement Awards. After discussion of this proposal, it was moved, seconded, and unanimously voted to accept this proposal with the above- mentioned modification. — 4 ll ee
